Will I Ever See Your Face Again? *Action Sequence*
The past few days have tried Arthur severely. Nothing is the same without his Ygraine there. Camelot seems dreary and dull, despite the beautiful weather.

Arthur has done his best not wallow, spending time with his grandchildren has helped. Especially little Custen who at 8 is really progressing with his swordplay. And little Morgan is sweet already, with curly hair just like her grandmother...and aunt.

Arthur saddles up Ni, who rarely gets out these days, being close to 25 now. But he's still a very fine horse.

The King is paying particular attention to where he's going, absorbed in his thoughts and wondering if his little princess really will come home.

An hour passes and it seems not, and the High King turns his horse back to Camelot, where endless meetings and councils await. A lone figure wandering the halls of Camelot.

Ygraine's not wandering the halls, exactly. She's looking for Bors, who she hasn't seen since she returned from her honeymoon and time with the Druids. She hasn't been to see either of her parents yet, because she expects them to still be in meetings.

She's looking in the corridors nearer to the stables, when she almost literally bumps into someone. Someone who isn't Bors. Someone who is her father.

Ygraine backs up a little bit. "Er...hello, Father."

To say it's awkward is to put things lightly.
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 06:55 am (UTC)
Arthur's about to say something vague when he realises who it is.

"Ygraine?" He stares at her in astonishment, wondering if she's real.
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 06:57 am (UTC)
She nods, in confirmation.

And then, in typical Pendragon style, to try to ease the tension, goes with completely avoiding any and all uncomfortable subjects for as long as she can manage it. "I've been looking for Bors everywhere. Have you seen him?"
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:01 am (UTC)
Arthur doesn't even hear her question, as in typical Pendragon style he's just too relieved. In fact his heart is all but bursting with joy.

He wraps his daughter in a huge hug and tears will start to fall.

"Ygraine! Ygraine, thank God! I thought... I thought..."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:03 am (UTC)
Ygraine hugs back, awkwardly at first, but relaxes after a while. That was not what she was expecting from him. At all.

"I'm all right, Father. I promise."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:17 am (UTC)
Now that sort of thought would really break Arthur's heart. How could she think he'd be anything less than overjoyed to have her back?

"Mother and I...we've hardly slept-" or he hasn't at least- "we've been so... Don't ever leave like that again, you can tell us anything, you know that."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:25 am (UTC)
Well, considering she ran off to be married without his permission, it's a logical fear.

"I'm sorry. I did leave a note." Clearly, this means she should get some bonus points. "And Wren and Bors were there to explain everything."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:42 am (UTC)
Arthur frowns, ordinarily he adores his daughter's cheekiness, but this is a bit much.

"You didn't say why, we couldn't figure it out, and then...you went to HIM -" by which he means Mordred, not Melehan - "I thought...you had left forever."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:47 am (UTC)
"I said I would be back!" Ygraine protests. "We went to see my husband's father first because we knew we would have a harder time speaking to him about it than we would with you." She emphasizes Mordred's new role in her life to prove a point.
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 07:55 am (UTC)
Arthur gives her a look.

But he manages a little smile. "So you thought he'd be more difficult. Was he? He did't hurt or threaten you did he?"

Suddenly Arthur's on the alert, if there's a hint of such a thing, the Druid will be finding himself on the pointy end of Excalibur.
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 08:00 am (UTC)
Ygraine gives him a look right back. "Nobody was hurt, and nobody was threatened." She doesn't answer his other question, though, because she doesn't feel like discussing that with him. That's between her and her father-in-law. "I am family now, after all."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 08:08 am (UTC)
Arthur winces, being conected to Mordred is a bit much. There's so much bad blood...

Melehan is a fine young man and an exceptional knight.

"I suppose...but...promise you'll be careful. Mordred is just... he's dangerous."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 08:10 am (UTC)
Ygraine rolls her eyes. She's heard it before, and it's not something she wants to talk about now. Especially now that he's her father-in-law. And she definitely doesn't promise to be careful. "You never answered my question about Bors."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 08:28 am (UTC)
Bors...

Oh Hell. Arthur winces.

"I'm not actually sure..." he begins slowly...hesitantly. "I...Duran would know."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 03:13 pm (UTC)
"What? Father, please don't tell me you...." But Ygraine knows how the knights work, and she knows what that means. "How could you? And behind my back? No, I want him back. "
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 10:58 pm (UTC)
Arthur's shoulders slump.

"I didn't think...I thought you weren't coming back."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 10:59 pm (UTC)
Now Ygraine just stares at him.

"I said I would! And Bors and Wren should have said the same."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 7th, 2011 11:20 pm (UTC)
Arthur puts his hand to his forehead, God he's really messed up this...

"I never even thought you'd leave...not withot telling us why and I just couldn't..."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 01:00 am (UTC)
Ygraine, at least, is glad that the Bors discussion is currently taking place, instead of the big one that has to come eventually. The one about her eloping.

"I want Bors back. Now."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 01:20 am (UTC)
Arthur's blushing...actually blushing in embarrassment, in shame perhaps?

"I'll have a message sent, but it depends really on what he's been assigned to do..." If it's patrolling the northern borders it may not be so easy to extricate Bors.
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 01:49 am (UTC)
"What he's been reassigned to does not matter." Ygraine, her her entire life, has almost never demanded anything of her parents. She was actually a really easy child to deal with. "He is supposed to be assigned to me."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 02:06 am (UTC)
That's what made her elopement so shocking and difficult to fathom!

Arthur isn't exactly intimidated by his daughter, but the look of disappointment on her face cuts him to the bone.

"I'll get him back here for you." he promises, then sighs. "Of course if you hadn't left this wouldn't have happened."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 02:11 am (UTC)
"I had to leave. It was the only way." Every once in a while, even the most unselfish people in the world have to have their way. "I love him, Father. But if we wanted to marry, that was how it had to happen."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 02:35 am (UTC)
Have a disbelievingly look.

"You never even mentioned this desire to your mother and me! I mean yes, we heard that you and Melehan were close. But there's close and there's running off and completely devesating your parents!"
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 03:08 am (UTC)
"We couldn't tell you." When Arthur says completely devastated, Ygraine goes from nearly throwing a temper tantrum over Sir Bors, to looking down at the floor, almost in shame. But only briefly. "It had to happen this way."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 04:45 am (UTC)
Arthur rubs the back of his neck and tentativel touches his daughter's arm.

"I'm not trying to upset you...but Ygraine...how can you believe that? Do you really think I'm that horrible?"
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 05:12 am (UTC)
"No, I don't. But honestly, if I had told you I wanted to marry Mordred's son, what would your reaction have been?" She looks up at him. "And how do you think he would have reacted if we'd asked him? Or if we married after receiving your blessing, but not his?"
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 8th, 2011 07:56 am (UTC)
She's got him there... Arthur perfers not to think about Mordred. His knee-jerk reaction is to ask why the couple even cares if they have his approval or not.

But when it comes to difficult fathers...well, Arthur's in no position to judge.

"I just wish you had..." he sighs, this is not a competition, the couple had gone to Mordred first and that was that.

Still..."How did he take it then?"
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 9th, 2011 03:36 pm (UTC)
"I wish he would have taken it better." That's all Ygraine's going to say on the matter. What happened between her and Mordred is between her and Mordred. Her father doesn't need to know.

"Melehan's here, with me. If you'd like to see him."
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 10th, 2011 04:31 am (UTC)
Arthur gives his daughter a smile - always the peacemaker, unless it came to fighting with Gwydre.

He puts an around her shoulders. "Of course I want to see him, I've always liked Melehan, you know that. And I best make sure he'll treat my little princess right."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 10th, 2011 04:47 am (UTC)
"He's been treating me right for years, father." Ygraine and Melehan have been keeping their relationship secret for a long time now. To anyone who wasn't Sir Bors, or Wren, it just seemed like they were close childhood friends. "If he hadn't, I wouldn't have married him.
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 10th, 2011 08:34 am (UTC)
Arthur kisses his daughter's forehead. "I know you wouldn't have. Still...it's a father's duty to make sure his son-in-law is properly scared." He gives her a wink.
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 10th, 2011 07:00 pm (UTC)
"Not too scared, I hope." She smiles, glad that things seem okay between the two of them, except for the Bors thing.
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 12th, 2011 10:24 am (UTC)
Yes, Bors! Arthur's definitely going to have to get him back! And apologise profusely to the man.

In the meantime though, Arthur's relieved to have his daughter with him again.

"Let's go meet your husband then..."
[identity profile] ymladdtywysoges.livejournal.com on April 12th, 2011 03:32 pm (UTC)
Arthur won't have the chance. As soon as Ygraine knows where Bors is, she and her husband will be personally going off to drag him back home. She's planning it right now, actually.

"I'm not actually certain where he is. I can go get him, and bring him to see you shortly?"
[identity profile] albionsclotpole.livejournal.com on April 12th, 2011 09:21 pm (UTC)
Arthur is admittedly, a little leery of letting his little Princess wander off having just been reunited. He knows he's been foolish however so he smiles and nods.

"I'll be in the Study."

Hopefully, when she runs off to get Bors she'll do more than leave a note behind.
